Toggle to disable geometry editing (attribute editing only)

I work a lot with non-technical and non-GIS enumerators.
If we are collecting field data about an pre-existing geometry set (e.g. from OpenStreetMap), it's not necessary for the user to edit the geometries.
Often a failure mode has been where enumerators accidentally edit the geometry in the field, when they should only be editing the attributes via the form.
Consequently, project managers must go back and replace the geometry manually, then sync across to all users again - time consuming and error prone.

Specific ask

: two project types via a toggle. Enumeration (attributes only) vs standard (full geometry editing).

Sam Woodcock, that's actually achievable already with QField 4.0. You can disable geometry editing (which will remove the edit geometry button) for a given vector layer by going to the QField panel of its properties dialog:
Programmatically, you'd achieve that by setting a custom property on the layer, e.g.:
vlayer.setCustomProperty("QFieldSync/is_geometry_editing_locked", True)
